Given the growing importance of exercise physiology in medicine and health sciences, there is a need to introduce an expanded curriculum in exercise physiology for the degree programs offered at the Faculty of Health Sciences of Jagiellonian University Medical College. In response to this demand, the Faculty of Health Sciences of Jagiellonian University Medical College plans to establish a new unit in the near future – the Department of Exercise Physiology. In addition to conducting research, this department would provide education for students in the fields of exercise physiology and biochemistry. One of the fundamental scientific tools in the newly established unit, enabling comprehensive measurement of physicochemical parameters occurring in the body during physical exercise, is the recently acquired complete ergospirometry workstation. The planned research will allow for precise identification of factors determining human physical performance, including during the aging process and in the course of numerous diseases, particularly metabolic disorders and cardiovascular diseases.
